Why White?
White is the most requested background color in photography. Amazon mandates it for main product images. eBay and Etsy recommend it. Professional headshots, passport photos, and marketing materials often require it. A white background is clean, universal, and focuses attention on the subject.
Complete Tutorial
1 Open QuickRemove
Download and launch QuickRemove on your Windows PC. Free tier works for this process — no account needed.
2 Import Your Image
Drag and drop your photo into QuickRemove. It accepts PNG, JPG, WEBP, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and HEIC/HEIF.
3 Let AI Remove the Background
The AI automatically detects your subject and removes the existing background. This happens in seconds.
4 Select White Background
In the background replacement options, choose solid color. Use the color picker to select pure white (#FFFFFF / RGB 255, 255, 255). For marketplace compliance, this exact value matters — close-to-white isn't the same as pure white.
5 Refine Edges
Check the edges of your subject against the white background. Use these tools if needed:
- Color decontamination — removes any color spill from the original background
- Feathering — softens hard edges for a natural transition
- Brush/eraser — manually fix any areas the AI missed
6 Add Effects (Optional)
Consider adding a subtle contact shadow beneath the subject. This prevents the "floating" look and makes the product or person appear grounded on the white surface.
7 Export
Save as JPG for marketplace uploads (smaller file size, white backgrounds don't need transparency). Save as PNG if you want to preserve the option to change the background later.

Common Mistakes
- Not using pure white — off-white or light gray can cause marketplace rejections. Use exactly #FFFFFF.
- Forgetting color decontamination — if the original background was colored, traces of that color may remain on the subject's edges
- No shadow — subjects floating on white look unnatural. A subtle contact shadow adds realism.
- Wrong export format — PNG files are larger; use JPG when the background is solid white (no transparency needed)
Batch White Background Conversion
For product catalogs, use QuickRemove's batch processing: import all images, set white as the background for the batch, and export everything. Each image gets AI background removal + white background + consistent settings. Basic plan handles 25 per batch; Pro is unlimited.
